From Kansas Roots to Community Impact

In this Dirt and Bull episode, we meet Katie Carothers—a Kansas native whose deep agricultural roots inspired her to create a life centered on family, faith, and hard work. Though she once said she'd never marry a farmer, Katie now runs a growing ranching business with her husband and raises their two boys on the land she once vowed to avoid.

Katie founded KCK Farms in 2019 as a way to stay home with her kids and still contribute to the family’s livelihood. From selling locally raised beef, pork, and chicken to launching a tallow skincare line, she’s built a brand that reflects her values. Her journey hasn’t been without challenges, but through grit and grace, she’s carved a place for herself in both agriculture and entrepreneurship.

A big part of her story is community. Katie helped form “Tallow Wives,” a network of women passionate about natural living and supporting each other through agriculture and business. It’s a reminder that rural women are not only holding things down—they’re building each other up and shaping the future of food and wellness.

Katie also homeschools her children, integrating faith and life skills into their daily education. Whether she’s running a combine, shipping meat orders, or teaching lessons at the kitchen table, her story is one of purpose, resilience, and staying true to what matters most.
